and we are so excited!
(I seriously don’t think we could smile any bigger)
that is the day we closed…before the late nights re-grouting tile bathrooms, never-ending Lowe’s lists, and multicolored paint highlights in my hair.
there was carpet to tear out, outlets to replace, gutters to clean, siding to powerwash, and a long long list of other To Dos.
but then there were the figs.
because we have…
wait for it…
a FIG TREE.
well techinically it’s a bush. But it’s a bush that’s as tall as our 2 story house. And if you follow my instagram I’ve probably filled your feed with obnoxious home improvement and fig posts.
it’s been quite a journey working on this house…and it will continue. With the help of some wonderful friends and family we are transforming this little old house into our very first (owned) home.
And it is oh so sweet.
So sweet to have a place to call home. A home that is ours. A home that we can come back to after long days of work, and sometimes weeks of travel.
I don’t think I realized how deeply my heart desired to put down roots. I’ve spent the last 8 years of my life traveling and moving. In fact, I’m not sure I’ve stayed in one place for more than 18 months. Seeing the world, learning new languages and experiencing other cultures (in and out of the US) has greatly formed me. Each one of those places holds a little piece of my heart.
Needless to say, deciding to buy a home (in a place that wasn’t Kentucky or El Salvador) was a really big decision for us. A life-changing decision, actually. And we couldn’t and wouldn’t have done it if it hadn’t been for God’s fingerprints all over it.
So here we are…at the opening of a new season of life. And if the last six weeks have been any indication of what’s to come…we have an incredibly beautiful, joyful, exhausting rewarding season ahead of us.
