I’m from Kentucky. Which means I grew up far far away from blue oceans and golden beaches. In fact, my family lovingly jokes about ‘Kentucky beaches’ on lakes where one can find lawn chairs in parking lots surrounded by one too many beer coolers.
My sweet mama is from Florida, so at least once each year growing up, my parents would pack the five of us in a van, and hit the road for the 20+ hour drive to Ft. Lauderdale. It’s amazing they kept their sanity.
As a photographer, I love photographing in the South. I love the rolling hills, leafy trees, and the incredible colors of fall. But there’s a little part of me that dreams of sandy beaches and sparkling sunsets. There’s a quality of light there that just doesn’t exist farther inland.
When I was in El Salvador a few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to shoot on the beach…and wow. It didn’t hurt that I had the most adorable, fun-loving family to photograph! Here are a few of my favorite photographs of Anibal, Mafer and little Gabriel.
