38 years later…

On our wedding day a guest (I wish I could remember who) greeted Josue and I with a big hug and told us how happy he was for us.  Then he went on to say that he wouldn’t be congratulating us that day.  Because the wedding is the easy part…it is a marriage that stands the test of time the deserves the congratulations.

I’ve photographed and witnessed countless weddings, and there is so much symbolism and beauty in a wedding.  But it pales in comparison to a marriage.

I’ve thought a lot about that over the years as I approach my 5th anniversary with Josue.  There are highs and lows, celebrations, hard conversations and challenges along the way, however working through each one of those brings a deeper level of trust and appreciation.

Today my dear parents celebrate 38 years of marriage.  38 years!

I’ve watched them serve one another, encourage one another, work as a team, challenge one another and bless one another through the years, and I couldn’t be more thankful for the example the have set for me; for us.

If you’ve spent any amount of time with me you’ve heard me talk about my family…and how much I love them.  We laugh until our faces hurt and stay up way too late when we are all together because family is precious.

Thanks Mom and Dad for teaching us that.  For making family a priority and teaching us to cheer one another on in life.  Thanks for the sense of adventure you gave us (probably linked to the many motor-home trips and backpacking excursions).

I love you so much…Happy 38 years!
